What are waterless urinals?

Unlike traditional urinals which use water for flushing, waterless urinals as in the name, use NO amount of water. As you can imagine, this can save a huge amount of clean drinking water that would otherwise be flushed away.

You might be thinking how does a waterless urinal possibly work? Well, it’s actually quite simple. A unique designed trap chamber is filled with sealant, a liquid that is lighter than water is made partially from oil and doesn’t evaporate.

Combined with the use of gravity, the liquid works to send waste down the drain in a cleanly fashion.

The urine will flow through the dome trap (a removable cartridge) that filters it through the sealant. The urine eventually makes it way down the same bathroom’s waste line that standard urinals also use.

Benefits of waterless urinals?

There are several major benefits of using waterless urinals which are revolutionising the way we go to the toilet.

#1 They Don’t smell

Despite what many may think, waterless urinals actually control unfriendly smells from escaping through the pipes. This is done with the use of the liquid sealant that is engineered to stay floating on top of the urine at all times once it is released. Even urine that is sitting in the trap for a long time will be sealed.

#2 Less Bacteria

Most people don’t know that it is actually the combination of water and urine that enables bacteria to grow and thrive. However with waterless urinals not only is there no water to allow this, but the sealant in the urinal drain prevents the urine from being open to air.

Also with flushing urinal systems, there can be water splashed into the air which can further encourage the spread of bacteria throughout the bathroom and even onto body and clothing. With waterless urinals, there is no possibility of this.

Nevertheless, we recommend as with any bathroom fixture that waterless urinals be cleaned regularly to ensure complete hygiene.  To clean them all is needed is to give them a wipe down with a household cleaner and a sponge.

#3 Water Efficiency

Waterless urinals are called waterless for a reason. They really do work without the use of any water at all! The average water consumption of an old-style urinal can use 2.2 litres per flush.  Even the “most efficient” urinals will use 1.5 litres per flush.

You can imagine just how much water is used per day in busy offices where over a hundred men are working. However, with waterless urinals, on the other hand, you can save 100% of all that water! The amount of water conservation would be enormous for any business, big or small.

#4 Can Easily Replace Traditional Urinals

Our waterless urinal fixtures are manufactured to fit with conventional plumbing systems which makes them easy to replace exist traditional urinals. Since won’t need to flush away waste, waterless urinals don’t need to be fixed up to a water supply line. The pipelines that urinals are hooked up to only need to be installed on a slope that is steep enough to allow waste to drain easily.

#5 Low-maintenance

To many people’s surprise, waterless urinals actually require less maintenance compares to traditional flushing urinals. They are specially designed to be leak-resistant and don’t have handles or valves that need to be replaced. They do however need regular maintenance to keep them working properly and safely but this is only a few times a year.

The sealant liquid for one needs to be replaced every 1,500 uses as the sealant slowly diminishes over time as it seeps down the drain with the urine.
